What we did for Halloween this year
Bryan and I have never been very intentional to "celebrate" Halloween each year. The first Halloween that we were in Minneapolis for, some friends threw a Reformation Day party and we were supposed to dress up as something. I don't think we took the dressing up part seriously so we just came as we were and wore funny hats or something.
Last year, we got smart and participated in Chipotle's (one of our new favorite restaurants that we discovered upon moving here) Halloween free burrito offer: when you come in "dressed as a burrito, taco or salad bowl" you get a free burrito. So, basically just come with foil on you in some way and you get a yummy, $5-$6 burrito for free! So we ate our burritos and took a drive about 15 minutes out of the city to a friends' house for a bonfire, in the dark game of capture the flag, fellowship, snacks, etc. It was great fun.
This year, we decided to continue the tradition of free burrito getting and then went to a costume party that our small group friends put on. It was really fun. They were a bit strict in the invitation saying that we really had to come dressed up as something with at least a little bit of effort put into it. So Bryan was Michael Jordan:

...and I was a nurse...

So we successfully participated without having to spend any money on our costumes! I had borrowed scrubs from a friend who is a nurse and Bryan already had what he needed (though the jersey was from when he was in high school, but it did still fit!).
We had a lot of fun...you should see how some of our friends dressed up. :)

Yes, we are bad bloggers.
We apologize for our absence from posting.
Let's see, things that have happened since August:
- Nope, I'm not pregnant yet. Sorry to disappoint. :) Thought I should tell you that one from the start. Keep praying with us, please!
- Bryan started school in late August and it has been his favorite year of schooling throughout his whole life, so far. He has Greek 2 class on Monday nights (which I am taking with him) and his Bible classes are on Tuesday evenings. He has adjusted well to his new schedule of full-time work and full-time school. He's my hero. A great husband, worker, student and friend even with all of the responsibility that he carries! I'm hoping that he will post soon to update you on some of his newer responsibilities at work that he's very excited about.
- I am back to working just part-time at Desiring God. Very thankful for that. I am still a Pampered Chef consultant but that has taken a back burner for right now. We'll see what God has in mind for that.
- We went camping with some friends in September (for the first time in our marriage) and really enjoyed it. It helped that the weather cooperated BEAUTIFULLY!
- The 2009 Desiring God National Conference came and went with a blur. We love working DG's conferences. I had a new opportunity for this conference that really blessed me: volunteering for the conference worship team. What a joy to use the talent that God has given me to serve and point others to Christ in song!
- Along with the passing of September came the realization that we have now lived in our apartment for a year (and I still haven't posted pictures of it now that it's painted and we're settled). I will work on those pictures for you now that I have some more time on my hands. :)
- Buddy finished his Intermediate training class. We're taking a break from classes for right now and will work on cementing the things that he has learned so far. We really praise God for how good of a dog he is for us!
- October 10th was our first snow of the season. Summer is long gone, Autumn has been cut short and Winter is fast approaching!
That's it in a nutshell. See, I can give a summary!

Result
Well, the cardiologist is still happy with Bryan's state of health and said that we can probably start lengthening the time between these visits to more like every 2 years. Praise the Lord for keeping Bryan's heart and Aortic valve healthy!
It was so amazing to be able to watch my husband's heart beat on the monitor as they were conducting the EKG. God has so marvelously designed the human body! To Him be all of the glory for the many complexities in it.
By way of further good news, Bryan and I are trying to/praying that we will have a baby within the next year. So we wanted anyone that reads this to know that you have asking rights (i.e.: Are you pregnant, yet?) and a responsibility, namely, we ask that you would pray for us as we ask the Lord for this new phase of our marriage to begin.
Please pray that:
- we would be patient to wait on God's timing even if it is not our timing.
- we would enjoy each other in this last phase of our marriage without children (Lord willing).
- we would give God the glory by our marriage no matter what this next year of life will hold for us.
- I would get pregnant soon! (couldn't leave that one out...I'm just so excited for a baby!) :)
Thank you.

It's been a year already?!
One year ago, we were making visits to the doctor and trying to keep you updated on the results: whether Bryan has Marfan Syndrome that has affected his Aortic valve, or not.
The doctors had him go through quite a few tests to get a good look at his entire Aortic valve and were very happy with the size and health of it. Our cardiologist told us that if Bryan's Aortic valve is not showing unhealthy signs by the time he is 25 years old, then he is most likely out of the "danger zone", so to speak. He turned 25 last year. But he still wanted Bryan to come in for a yearly check-up for at least the next few years of his life. Just to be safe and keep an eye on things. Our cardiologist is a good man and knows what he's dealing with when it comes to Marfans.
Now we find ourselves preparing for his yearly check-up this afternoon, already. I can't believe a year has gone by. Bryan turned 26 on Tuesday. Another year of life. Another day of life. So much that is undeserved. So much to be thankful for.
This is how Bryan would say he is feeling today as posted on his Facebook page: "I have my annual check-up with the cardiologist today. Please pray for my faith in God and that the report would magnify His name."
I ask that you would keep both of us in your prayers today. You wouldn't think a yearly check-up could be so terrifying but the thought that we would suddenly find out that something has gone wrong is very present. At the same time I feel such a peace in knowing that God has our days numbered. Marfans or not, He is sovereign and good! Fearing the thoughts of illness and death only wears negatively on our faith in God.
So I say to myself today, "This is another day of life for Bryan and me. Be thankful for it. Do not take it for granted. Our future is in God's hands, the best place that it could possibly be. Find rest in Him and don't waste your life!"

Our ghetto Buddy
A friend and co-worker made Buddy a hoodie so that he could be hip for Bryan's birthday. Here is one picture. More on Picasa.

Fun in PA! (by Bryan)
It has been a great trip to Pennsylvania so far. Here are some highlights:
-BBQ chicken lunch with Grandma Wagner
-Playing with Buddy and RJ
-Watching Phillies' games (I'm on my 4th one; Dad W watches with me/sleeps)
-Bowling
-Dog park
-Hiking
-Swimming pool and water slide
-Hershey Park and realizing I'm getting older
-Large Kettle Popcorn (it took me 2 days to finish!)
-St. Thomas Roasters' Coffee (plus I'm meeting with Mr. Brad Hoezee tomorrow, Lord willing)
-Reading The Silmarillion and other books
-Monsters & Aliens
-2nd half of Bruce Almighty
-The Bucket List
-Appreciating family (though Dad has died, God has blessed me mightily)
-And of course, Twitter and Facebook!
Weather permitting, we're hoping to go to a Senator's game (minor league baseball) and a pitch and putt course!
Next week - DeWire family!
